Sustainability Grant

Aquatic Rescue Management is proud to announce we were succesful in winning a "Green Grant" from Wollongong City Council. As a result of the grant we were able to purchase a new Honda 4-Stroke outboard.

Description of project

Greening Aquatic Safety – Aquatic rescue management’s aim is to replace our existing outboard engine with a more environmentally friendly and fuel efficient engine. Having been operating since 2000 with a 1997 2-Stroke outboard it is obvious that even a well maintained engine is lacking the technologies that ensure current emission control and environmentally friendly operating practices are achieved. Over the lifespan of our operation we have continually strived to ensure our practices have minimal impact on the environments that we operate in, we understand the need to have a balance between safety and managing risks and protecting the environment. In meeting risk management requirements we will always need powered craft to respond to emergencies quickly, to affect rescues, to be able to carry equipment and medical supplies and cover the distances that are required by today’s aquatic events. We aim to do this by implementing environmentally friendly outboards that meet or exceed current environmental guidelines.

Project objectives:

1. Improve resource usage; specifically a decrease in the use of fuel and oil.

2. To operate in a manner which protects the environment and/or reduces our impact on the environment

3. Provide promotional opportunities for the Aquatic Rescue Management and Wollongong City Council.

Expected outcomes:

1. Decrease in the emission of harmful gases produced compared to our current engine.

2. Reduced use of fuel by up to 50%

3. Reduced use of oil by up to 90%

4. Decrease in noise produced compared to our current outboard

5. Cleaner waterways as a result of fewer exhaust emissions and a cleaner operating engine

6. Cleaner and healthier environment to work in for our employees

7. Cleaner and healthier environment for competitors and students swimming or competing near our boats

8. The community knowing that a local company is doing its best to improve the environment we all live in.
